A Story: "Love on the Net"

Week 7th- 9th April

Hi! How are you doing?

Fine, aren’t you? Me, too. Because next week is Easter and we’ll be on holiday. After such a long term, we really deserve a holiday; don’t you think?
I’m sorry to hear that Noemi isn’t coming this term, but we wish you good luck at work and with your band. Let us know about your concerts!

We reviewed passive questions. Yes, they are a bit tricky because you have to bear in mind (consider) two things at the same tie. You have to pay attention to the passive structure, using “to be” and also to the word order in questions:

Are bananas grown in Spain?
Was the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo Da Vinci?
Who was taken to hospital?
Was the room being cleaned when you got to the hotel?

We went through your essays and corrected the mistakes you had made.

You told me Elaine’s story.

Elaine’s talking to her friend on the phone. Her life has changed a lot. She now lives with Shane.
Who is Shane? How did they meet? Is he married? Did Bob and Elaine split up? Why? Who was getting on Elaine’s nerves?

·         You usually keep in touch (communicate with each other) with your friends. Sometimes you can’t get in touch (contact) with them because we are too busy these days!
·         They split up (break up, break a relationship) after ten years of living together.
·         Celebrities often get divorced and they get married again after some time.
·         That horrible noise is getting on my nerves. (I can’t stand it, I hate it)

We worked in pairs so as to complete a crossword by using definitions.

·         It’s a place where you …
·         It’s a person who
·         It’s something you say / do when …
·         It’s the opposite of../ a kind / sort of…
·         It’s made of
·         It’s used for

We also practised making questions and answers so as to fill in the missing information we had on our pieces of paper.
We had to find out (discover) details about Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

·         When was Keira born?
·         Who really was Orlando’s father?
·         How many films has Keira made since 2001?
·         Why did Orlando have a lot of problems at school?
·         How long has Keira lived in London?

We found out that both of them live in London. Both of them had problems because they’re dyslexic. Keira was born in Teddington and Orlando was born in Canterbury, (beautiful town, by the way); so, both of them are British. Both left school when they were teenagers and concentrated on acting.

If you want to know more about Canterbury, here you have their official website
